Today I went to Sunday School. I haven't been in a really long time, more than six months at least. Week after week of "Well, I will go next week…" The problem was a few things: one I had gotten lazy. "I will just watch online." "I can go another time." Here's the thing, I am aware that the church is not a building. It's the people. But if I'm thinking to myself the thoughts I was thinking, well, those are selfish thoughts. Did you notice that both of those statements above were about self? I was being selfish.
The early church in Acts where they were first called Christian were together all the time. Right now I am thinking about my local church here has a Tuesday meeting called Cup o' Joe. It's really a time of fellowship. Once a month we get together and eat at someone's home. So who is really at fault here? Me.
Also, it's not about me. It's about serving others not coming to see what I can get, etc. Smile and talk with the weary. Give a warm hug to someone. Encourage someone. Lift up my voice in worship with others. Pray together. Give. There is so much that happens in just those two little short hours of an entire week that are the spark of hope for many. Two hours of 24 in one day. That is not even 10% of my day. I have not set and calculated the ridiculous hours I have spent on social media.
My Sunday School class is full elders. I am the youngest one in the group. Do you know what a blessing it is to be able to set with 7-9 elders who have been serving faithfully, attending faithfully for that long? It's a mighty blessing. Today my Sunday School teacher taught on trust and at the end, he asked me to close in prayer since I haven't been there in a while. Friend, when I closed my eyes and began to pray, I saw their faces in my mind and started to cry. I confessed that I was embarrassed and ashamed. I didn't expect to say that but here is the point: my spirit knows.
I'm so very thankful I went today and by the way, Pastor Marvin gave an excellent message today which was on Ride the Waves of Change. Excellent message! He said we can do one of three things: fear it, resist it, or ride the waves of change.
He said God enjoys doing new things and I believe him! He encouraged us to change. I'm excited about that!
I also heard a message today after I got home online from Crystal Rock in Ardmore. Pastor Spradling was talking about how his cousin was crippled from an accident. He went to visit him. He said there was such darkness there that he could feel it. He prayed all the way home for him. He asked God to shine light into that darkness and help his cousin. Do you know his cousin contacted him and told him that after he left a bright light came into his room!? Amen!!
I started crying because recently I went to a home that I felt such heaviness and darkness but I didn't do what Pastor Spradling did. I focused on what I saw with my eyes. But thank God, thank God the Holy Spirit showed me the error in my ways. I repented for that.
The Lord is just so kind. Isn't He? What things has He been showing you recently?
And remember...
Keep pouring.
